never been there before. This was the right thing to do, and we sailed in three definite groups. I heard Keith taking the time to do some very helpful teaching on sailing. We were also out for the whole day. So, it was not any 'policy change' in not to have a race - it was a pragmatic decision.

My own view, returning to something I said a few years ago (controversial!), is to have a set week in the year, either on a large Lakeland lake, or at Loch Lomond, and make this a week dedicated to racing, with maybe some workshops in between times. (But clearly not an event to teach novices). The attempt would be to have, say, 8 races in 7 days, taking a half day on each, with plenty of time to abandon racing for either too strong winds, or too light winds. There would then not be the pressure to have a race at all the other events, and these could be used to teach racing, and for tours and fun events. The week's racing would also recruit suitable timing/start volunteers as well. At present, a Sunday morning race can be the end of the weekend, the racers being either too tired, or having to get off home, to spend time with the less experienced.

Loading Sailing Canoe On Roof Rack Solo (SteveR)

Roll canoe out of the water on the trolley.

Put the canoe on the grass; strap trolley to the deck.

Roll the canoe over on the grass.

Roll the canoe to the car using the trolley. Place the end of the canoe on a barrel.

Get under the canoe.

Pick up the canoe. On tarmac, duct tape can be used to protect the back deck while you rest the front deck on the roof rack.

Nearly there.

Done.
